Board of Physical Therapy Update

Governor Ralph Northam has appointed Rebecca Duff, PTA, MS, to the Board of Physical Therapy. Rebecca joins President Arkena L. Dailey, PT, DPT, Vice President Elizabeth Locke, PT, PhD, Tracy Adler, PT, DPT, Susan Szasz Palmer, citizen member, Mira Mariano, PT, DPT, OCS, and Allen R Jones, PT, DPT (who was reappointed for a second 4-year term by the governor).

Rebecca replaces Sarah Schmidt, PTA, MPH, who completed her second 4-year term this past August. Sarah served as president of the Board of Physical Therapy from 2014 to 2016. The Board of Physical Therapy accomplished several major accomplishments during Sarah’s 8-year tenure:

  1. Designated as the 2018 FSBPT Excellence in Regulation Award recipient (to be awarded at the FSBPT Meeting in October); Maintained a 5-star rating by the FSBPT;
  2. Voted to pursue legislation in 2019 to join the interstate PT Compact;
  3. Completed a comprehensive review and revision of guidance documents;
  4. Proposed new regulations regarding the practice of dry needling (the regulations are currently awaiting the governor’s approval);
  5. Drafted and approved adoption of telehealth guidance documents;
  6. Adopted utilization of  aPTitude tool for licensees to manage CEU requirements, as well as approved the use of the oPTion assessment tool as CEU credit; and
  7. Increased and improved communication with licensees.
