VDOT Announces New Northern Virginia District Construction Engineer

Denise Cantwell has over 25 years of experience that includes planning, engineering, construction management, construction contracting and claims analysis, both in the private and public sectors. Her experience as an assistant dean and associate professor of construction management positively influences her approach to help grow staff and organizational knowledge and performance. She has considerable experience in developing contract language, claims avoidance and dispute resolution. As Project Controls Section Manager, she has a proven record of increasing team performance having helped, with others, the district achieved high performance scores including the past 3 years above 90% on-time for VDOT-administered construction projects.
This past year Denise won two Commissioner's Awards as part of two teams (Route 9 in Hillsboro and the Jones Branch Connector in Tysons, also recognized as National Project of the Year by ASHE). Her engineering career started with muddy boots on the ground providing geotechnical and materials inspection and testing. Over time she has helped deliver billions of dollars in construction projects.
