Transurban Wins P3 Community Impact Award from ARTBA

Transurban, one of the world's largest infrastructure developers and operators, recently won the P3 Community Impact Award from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), recognizing the decade-long impact of Transurban's Express Lanes Community Grant Program.

Transurban leveraged the power of a Public-Private partnership (P3) with the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to deliver the 495, 95, and 395 Express Lanes in Northern Virginia. Transurban’s Express Lanes Community Grant Program has been supporting communities throughout the construction and continues with the operation of those projects. Over the past decade, Transurban’s Community Grant programs bolstered the efforts of organizations throughout those corridors and have contributed more than $2.3 million to more than 350 organizations, creating healthier communities across the region, including those providing educational programming, support to the vulnerable, environmental sustainability, and other critical services.

Transurban has built on the success of the Express Lanes Community Grant Program by creating the Fred Ex Community Grant Program to coincide with construction of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex), and the 495 Northern Extension (495 NEXT) Grant Program to coincide with the construction of 495 NEXT. Together these programs are working to create more opportunities for community organizations doing vital work in the region.

“By investing in organizations that serve a variety of critical needs, we are working to improve residents’ quality of life across the region to ensure they thrive not just during construction, but well into the future,” said Jeff Taylor, vice president of project delivery for Transurban North America.

In addition to the quarterly Community Grants, Transurban consistently utilizes the grant programs to make a considerable impact during times of greater need in the region and to mark important milestones. For example, as part of the opening of the 395 Express Lanes project, Transurban made a $1 million grant award to the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, Transurban's single largest contribution.

This November marks the 10th anniversary of the 495 Express Lanes opening.
