After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) held their Professional Development Conference in-person. This year’s event was in Williamsburg, VA. As in the past, VTCA distributed the ever-popular Rock Kits to teachers.
In addition to the Rock Kits, VTCA also gave out the newly published book – “The Northern Virginia Trap Rock Quarries” book published by the Virginia Chapter of the Friends of Mineralogy (FMVA). The four VTCA Aggregate Producers highlighted in the book, Cedar Mountain Stone, Chantilly Crushed Stone, Luck Stone, and Vulcan Materials all contributed funds to print 500 copies of the book to hand out to teachers and schools. If you are interested in a copy of this book, contact Rob Lanham.
VTCA also raffled off a mineral display case for a school (this was done for last year’s VAST Conference and was very successful) and announced the dates for next summer’s Rock’n PD Quarry tours.
Almost 500 teachers attended this year’s event.
Special thanks to the below listed members that assisted with hosting and setting up the VTCA booth:
