One of the significant issues facing Virginia’s transportation construction industry is attracting and developing talent for our workforce. To address our workforce woes, VTCA has convened a Workforce Development Taskforce. This group comprises members representing all VTCA membership groups and has identified a potential opportunity through Virginia’s public schools’ system.
Many of the public-school systems in Virginia conduct High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs that offer high school students the opportunity to combine on-the-job training with their high school curriculum. High-Quality Work-Based Learning comprises experiences related to students’ career interests based on instructional preparation and takes place in partnership with local businesses or organizations and enables students to apply classroom instruction in a real-world work environment.
The VTCA Workforce Taskforce will be conducting a meeting on January 10 in Roanoke to connect VTCA Members with representatives from the Roanoke/Lynchburg regions High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs who will provide testimonials to the success of the program and how your firms can become involved in High-Quality Work-Based Learning.
This will be a unique opportunity for your firm to learn how you can become involved in High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs, exposing young individuals to your organizations, and providing training opportunities for students.
More detailed information on the High-Quality Work-Based Learning Program can be found here.
This meeting is focused on VTCA Members operating in the Salem and Lynchburg VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) Districts and is limited to these members. If there are openings as the event nears and you are not in these regions, we can open some spots, please let us know if you are interested.
If you are in these districts, register here.
If this event is successful, other meetings will be scheduled across Virginia with other School Districts.
