VESLA at Luck Stone's Rockville Quarry

Luck Stone’s Rockville Quarry welcomed members from the Virginia Science Education Leadership Association (VESLA) for an in-depth tour of their aggregate operation. This tour served as the kick-off for the VESLA 2024 Spring Meeting in Short Pump. The group consisted of about 20 science coordinators and other Department of Education officials.

The group was given a presentation on aggregate production, product uses, and geology. The highlight of the tour was the viewing of a quarry blast and a narrated tour of the operation.

This tour was targeted at the Science Coordinators as a prompt for public school regions to connect with VTCA to set up the popular Rockn’ PD Quarry Tours designed for teachers. We already have one Rockn' PD Quarry Tour scheduled for later this summer.
