2024 Scholarship Winners

The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance provides financial assistance to help deserving young individuals pursuing education in college or technical education programs that may lead to the transportation construction industry. This award is distributed to indvidual's annually and is a major accomplishment. We are thrilled to announce the winners of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance Scholarship: Desalegn Gemechu, Ethan Turner, and Caleb West!  

Desalegn Gemechu is a student at Old Dominion University working to complete his degree in Civil Engineering Technology; however, he has over 18 years of experience in the transportation industry. For the last seven years, he has worked on VDOT projects in Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, and the Hampton Roads area, earning him the title of certified construction manager from the Construction Management Institute of America. We wish him luck with the rest of his journey in college and afterwards as he continues to develop his skills in professional development.  

  
     

Ethan Turner is a student at Virginia Tech, where he is studying mechanical engineering. He has been involved with the transportation industry since graduating high school, holding positions at Branscome Inc., Lockheed Martin, and GE. He is also involved with the Hokie Electric Vehicle Team (HEVT) at Virginia Tech, where he has participated in community outreach and educational initiatives. Best wishes to Ethan as he continues down the engineering road after graduation. 

 
     

Caleb West is currently enrolled at Liberty University, studying mechanical engineering. Along with being a full-time student, Caleb has been working with English Construction, playing a major role in infrastructure projects within the state of Virginia. He is also a part of Liberty’s Steel Bridge Competition team, where students are challenged to design and create bridges. We wish Caleb well as he completes his education and continues to gain deeper knowledge in development projects. 

 

This prestigious award recognizes these exceptional students for their outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and passion for the transportation construction industry. Their hard work and dedication have set them apart, and this scholarship is a testament to their commitment to shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in Virginia. Join us in congratulating Desalegn, Ethan, and Caleb as they embark on their journey to drive innovation and excellence in the transportation field.
