VTCA and VA Energy Presents More Individual Safety Awards

The Individual Safety Awards is a VTCA and Virginia Energy – Mineral Mining program that recognizes miners for achieving years of service milestones without a lost-time accident. The 2024 awards recognized 98 miners for working safely without a lost-time injury for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45+ years. These 98 miners have worked a cumulative total of 2,899 years without a lost-time injury.
The most recent presentations were to miners at Appalachian Aggregates and Vulcan Materials – Sanders Quarry.
Recipients at Appalachian Aggregates are:
Bluefield Quarry
- Andy Clevinger 30 years without a lost time injury
- Billy Fuller 30 years without a lost time injury
- Lawrence E. Helbert 41 years without a lost time injury
- Billy Rose 50 years without a lost time injury
Castlewood Quarry
- Timothy Wayne Amos 38 years without a lost time injury
- Jamie Dean 20 years without a lost time injury
- James Matthew Fields 30 years without a lost time injury
- Jonathan Finch 20 years without a lost time injury
- Monty McClellan 20 years without a lost time injury
- Michael Jay Steffey 30 years without a lost time injury
Glade Spring Quarry
- Michael Wayne White 30 years without a lost time injury
Mouth of Wilson Quarry
- Thomas W. Scarberry 41 years without a lost time injury
Pounding Mill Quarry
- Bobby Peck 38 years without a lost time injury
- Billy Sullivan 44 years without a lost time injury
- Sam Tigler 46 years without a lost time injury
Vulcan Materials recognized:
Sanders Quarry
- John Pitts 20 years without a lost time injury
Additionally, the Vulcan Sanders Quarry celebrated a “Triple Zero Year” for 2024. A “Triple Zero Year” is zero injuries, zero MSHA citations and zero environmental infractions for a year. Congratulations to all the folks at Sanders Quarry and the entire Vulcan team for the monumental achievement!
