The Biden Administration has formally named Christopher J. Williamson as the nominee for MSHA Assistant Secretary. This position reports directly to the Secretary of Labor and has been vacant since David Zatezalo’s departure following the Administration change last January.
Williamson previously worked at MSHA during the Obama administration where he was a special assistant to the Secretary and served as an attorney advisor on the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission (FMSHRC). Prior to his time at MSHA, Williamson was a legislative assistant to Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and labor counsel to former Senator Tom Harkin on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. Williamson is currently senior counsel to Chairman Lauren McFerran of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
