Rob Cary Retires Leaving Behind a Legacy at VDOT

After 30 years with VDOT, Rob Cary, PE, LS left his position as VDOT’s Chief Deputy Commissioner on Friday, December 31.

From his first day with VDOT in the Staunton District at 26 years old until today, Rob has been working together with industry to improve the quality of life in the Commonwealth by making each of our communities a better place to live, work and raise a family.

"I am happy to be leaving the agency at a time in which VDOT finds itself in such a strong position. Our financial condition is the strongest I’ve ever seen. Our projects continue to be delivered on-time, on-budget and with high quality. Our maintenance program has a forward-looking, proactive and detailed plan for each of our major assets ensuring ongoing sustained performance," said Cary. "I leave knowing that VDOT has a bright future and will continue to do great things in every community across the Commonwealth."
