VDOT has announced a significant change in the Department’s pay item codes used for estimating and bidding on VDOT projects. If your bidding system uses or outputs your bid data directly to BidX for proposal submission, then you will likely need to prepare for the change.
Effective for all projects advertised after May 1, 2023, the new numbers will be used for all pay items. The revised format will directly reference the specification section number, Pay Item Type, and Spec Book Year. You can find a current listing of the pay items in the revised format, also showing the former specification number on the VDOT Construction Resources page. The document will be updated periodically as new pay items are added, modified, or deleted so please reference this link for the current version.
