Farewell to the Intern

As the summer comes to a close, VTCA is saying farewell to our first summer intern. Jessica Roby started with us back in May of this year and is now heading back to Christopher Newport University to finish her last year of school.

Over the course of her three months here, she has created public relations and marketing materials such as press releases, blog posts, newsletters, and social media posts. Jessica also assisted in managing our website, tended to our scholarship program, and designed campaigns related to events and legislative issues in the Commonwealth.

In addition to onsite experience, Jessica was exposed to numerous planning aspects such as researching vendors for various recreational activities, reviewing proposals and making site selections, site visits for venue selection, contract review and negotiations, coordinating lodging for staff and managing upgrades, and all facets of preparing for an event including registration package preparation, signage, etc.

Jessica summarized her internship stating that:

"During my time at VTCA I have learned all about how to function in a professional environment and what day-to-day proceedings look like in an office space. I have gotten to work with a lot of great people who helped elevate my knowledge and skills so I can be prepared for all my future endeavors."
