One of the major issues facing Virginia’s transportation construction industry is attracting and developing talent for our workforce. To address our workforce concerns, VTCA created a Workforce Development Taskforce comprised of VTCA members representing different segments of the industry. The taskforce has identified a potential opportunity through Virginia’s public schools system.
Many of the public-school systems in Virginia conduct High-Quality Work-Based Learning (HQWBL) programs that offer high school students’ opportunities to combine on-the-job training with their high school curriculum related to students’ career interests and take place in partnership with local businesses or organizations.
The VTCA Workforce Taskforce will be conducting a meeting on November 8 in Culpeper, VA at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CCPS) to connect VTCA Members with the representatives from the Northern Virginia and greater Fredericksburg regions programs. The High-Quality Work-Based Learning representatives will provide testimonials to the success of the program and how your firms can become involved in High-Quality Work-Based Learning.
This will be a unique opportunity for your firm to learn how you can become involved in exposing young individuals to your organizations and providing training opportunities for students.
