VDOT’s Construction Division recently shared an update of Class Groupings and Working Titles that will apply for staffing on Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) contracts. This update completes a position classification crosswalk that better aligns with the models that have been established by the Professional Service Procurement Office (PSPO). The revision also incorporates input provided to the Construction Division and PSPO by VTCA’s CEI Working Group.
Ben Coaker, Assistant State Construction Engineer, hit the highlights of these changes during a breakout session at the 2023 Consultant Forum held on October 3. The updated CEI classifications provide for a new tiered approach for Responsible Charge Engineers, Construction Managers, and Project Controls Specialists. The revisions also include a refocus on staff development, including an Inspector Trainee, better accommodating Out of State Inspectors, and providing clear pathways to develop Construction managers and Responsible Charge Engineers.
