Traffix Devices, Inc. has issued the attached recall notice for their “Traffix Alert High-Speed” (TAHS) Portable Temporary Rumble Strip (PTRS) product.
These devices can no longer be used on VDOT roads, effective immediately and until further notice. In response to this recall, the Traffic Operations Division has removed them from the Traffic Control Device Pre-Approval Listing (TCD PAL).
Where PTRS are used, they shall be one of the approved products on the TCD PAL. The only approved product is Plastic Safety System’s (PSS’s) “RoadQuake 2F Folding Temporary Portable Rumble Strips”. RoadQuake PTRS’s may continue to be used. Figures 1 and 2 below show the recalled TAHS product and the PSS RoadQuake product, respectively.
VDOT is asking contractors to take immediate action to ensure you no longer use Traffix’s TAHS product for any activities on VDOT roads. If you observe any PTRS devices shifting or breaking apart to an unacceptable degree, immediately notify VDOT’s work zone program manager (Marc.Lipschultz@vdot.virginia.gov).
