The Virginia Department of Energy - Division of Mineral Mining (DMM) and the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) are accepting applications for the annual Virginia Mineral Mine Safety Awards.
This June three members of the Contractor Leadership committee (CLC) will complete their terms and the CLC is currently soliciting VTCA Contractor members interested in serving on the committee. 
This April VDOT leadership, locality representatives, and industry professionals gathered in Hampton to participate in VTCA's Spring Conference and Trade Show.

After a 10-year ban, Congress revived “earmarks” that allow House and Senate members to designate public funding for specific projects in their districts.
A little over a year ago, the Industry-VDOT Procurement Task Force began making major changes and improvements to how Professional Services Contracts are procured at the Department. 
VTCA has reached an agreement with VDOT Maintenance and VDOT Procurement to permit Aggregate Delivery Contract holders the ability to adjust their pricing to compensate for the sudden and significant increase in the cost of diesel fuel required for aggregate deliveries made to directly to VDOT for maintenance requirements.  
The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association, like VTCA and many other organizations has focused efforts to address workforce issues. In light of this effort, NSSGA has recently developed a workforce survey for all aggregate producers to complete. Aggregate producers do not need to be NSSGA members to participate in the survey.  
VDOT has announced that James Swanson, P.E. is the Department’s new Statewide Construction Contracts Manager effective April 10, 2022.  
The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the publication of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking as it considers updating the regulations that implement the Davis-Bacon Act and Davis-Bacon and Related Acts to reflect better the needs of workers in the construction industry and planned federal construction investments. 
The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched a National Emphasis Program to protect workers from heat illness injuries.
