Following a public comment period earlier this year the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has, as expected, announced the reclassification of the northern long-eared bat (NLEB) as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The new rule is effective January 30, 2023.
VDOT has unveiled the framework to incorporate resilience strategies into transportation planning, project development and delivery, operations, maintenance, and asset management. The statewide Resilience Plan outlines strategies to prepare for and mitigate hazards that put the transportation network at risk of disruption and deterioration, such as recurring flooding and extreme weather events.

The 2022 General Assembly amended the section of the Virginia Air Pollution Control Law that addresses “site suitability.” These amendments grant localities, instead of DEQ, the ability to determine if a specific site is suitable for the type of industry/process that wishes to locate within their jurisdictions.
VDOT’s Materials Division maintains and regularly updates a list of approved materials for use on agency construction and maintenance projects. The approved “materials” list includes everything from concrete admixtures to sound barrier panels to coarse aggregates.
