VDOT’s Cost Estimation Office is pleased to announce that it is partnering with VTCA this year to host the 2024 Cost Estimation Summit, on April 22-24 in Richmond, VA.
 
During this event, participants will be able to learn leading practices and approaches for project cost estimating. This is a unique opportunity to learn and connect with other estimators from Consultants, VDOT, and Localities who are responsible for preparing and reviewing project cost estimates. 
 
 
Don’t miss the opportunity to gather with your industry peers along with VDOT and locality leaders for networking, education, and discussion at this year’s District Dialogue.
 
You’ll have a chance to hear from the District Engineer Tabitha Crowder, PE who will provide a strategic overview of the Bristol District.  VTCA’s Gordon Dixon will then moderate a panel of industry leaders who will share perspectives from VTCA’s three primary member sectors: Contractors, Engineers, and Aggregate Producers. The program will wrap up with an interactive session that will offer an assortment of discipline-unique discussion topics for the audience to consider and provide feedback.
 
VDOT continues to develop its e-ticketing program for asphalt, concrete and aggregates. VDOT has conducted several e-ticketing pilot projects with asphalt producers in most of VDOT’s Districts. They are now ready to embark on pilot projects for aggregate supplied on VDOT Projects.
The 2024 Spring Conference continued the tradition of success at the Hampton Roads Convention Center this year with over 800 transportation industry attendees.  With speakers covering transportation issues across the Federal, state and local spectrum, attendees were given insight into Virginia’s growing transportation program.

VTCA is seeking submissions from Contractor Members for the VTCA Contractor Safety Awards. Through the annual VTCA Transportation Contractor Safety Award Program, the Alliance is proud to recognize its contractor members who successfully demonstrate their commitment to a safe and healthy working environment. 
VTCA is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Event and Communications Intern to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning, communications, and association management within the transportation construction industry.
The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance provides financial assistance to help deserving young individuals pursuing education in college or technical education programs that may lead to the transportation construction industry. The scholarships have a value of $5,000 and three scholarships are awarded annually.

The VTCA Aggregates Program has made the commitment to promote Virginia’s aggregate industry with the public, local governments, educators, and any other stakeholders that can impact our industry. With that in mind, VTCA recently completed our report, “The Economic Contribution of the Construction Aggregate & Industrial Mineral Mining in Virginia.” With our study complete, we are striving to distribute the report to as many stakeholders as possible. 
As a follow-up to an article from the March 27 Blue Top on a potential increase in setback buffers for mining operations in Augusta County, the Augusta Board of Supervisors voted down the initiative. Mining operations setback will remain at 200 feet rather than increasing to 500 feet.  
DEQ has released notifications for two Watershed Clean-Up Plans. While these appear to be focused on bacteria impairment, it is worth monitoring if you have operations in the listed watersheds.
