The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance provides financial assistance to help deserving young individuals pursuing education in college or technical education programs that may lead to the transportation construction industry. The scholarships have a value of $5,000 and three scholarships are awarded annually.

The April 24, Blue Top featured an article highlighting a quarry tour of Luck Stone’s Rockville quarry for the Virginia Science Education Leadership Association.
 
This June, three members of the Contractor Leadership Committee (CLC) will complete their terms, and the CLC is currently soliciting VTCA Contractor members interested in serving on the committee.  The CLC will review the interest of candidates and identify three candidates to serve a three-year term. Those selected to replace the three expiring terms will begin their tenure in July 2024. 
  
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Murphy Tuomey, a true titan in our industry.  Murphy's retirement is effective June 30, 2024.

VDOT's Cost Estimation Office has announced the release of the Pre-Quantity Tool (PQT) and a searchable bid tabulations archive called Similar Project Estimates by Cost Category (SPECC). 
Virginia Energy’s Mineral Mining Program and the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) are accepting applications for the annual Virginia Mineral Mine Safety Awards, a very successful program that, since its inception in 2007, has recognized 120 companies and 525 mineral miners for outstanding safety achievements in Virginia’s mineral mining industry.
MSHA has issued the Final Silica Rule. As we suspected, this is a complex rule, and monitoring silica exposure may be a new concept to our producer members. The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) and their team of experts have digested the Silica Rule and have developed the Silica Rule Summary.
