Next week's National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) spreads awareness of work zone safety across the country. You play a role in work zone safety, so work with us by joining in, April 17-21.

VTCA is seeking submissions from Contractor Members for the VTCA Contractor Safety Awards. VTCA proudly encourages its members to implement and maintain programs providing a safe work environment for their employees as well as the general welfare of the public who travel through their work zones.
 
On April 5, the Virginia Tech Center for Economic & Community Engagement sent out a survey. The information from this survey will be utilized to develop our Virginia Aggregate Industry Economic Impact Study. The conclusion date for the survey is April 21, 2023.

As one of VTCA’s four leadership committees, the Contractor Leadership Committee (CLC) was established to represent the interests of the Contractor members of the Alliance. This June, three members of the CLC will complete their terms, and the CLC is currently soliciting VTCA Contractor members interested in serving on the committee.
VTCA is proud to offer a number of scholarships. These programs are great opportunities for deserving and qualified young people.

Robots don’t belong on volleyball courts, but for more than a decade Virginia Tech students had no other large, sandy place to test out mining robots.
Wanda was the wife of Harold Templeton, Marvin V. Templeton & Sons, Inc. and the mother of Marvin Templeton.  Both gentlemen served as President of VRTBA, Harold in 1982 and Marvin in 2002.
The 2021-2023 Emerging Leader Class is finishing up their program this summer and VTCA’s Leadership Committees are now soliciting new members. The emerging leaders become directly involved in each of their respective leadership committees and several times a year meet with their respective peers.
The Student Design Competition was introduced in the fall of 2004 and culminated at the 2005 SME Annual Meeting and Exhibit in Salt Lake City, UT. It is a two-stage competition involving a technical design stage and an oral presentation stage based on an aggregate mining industry design problem.

VDOT has announced a significant change in the Department’s pay item codes used for estimating and bidding on VDOT projects.  If your bidding system uses or outputs your bid data directly to BidX for proposal submission, then you will likely need to prepare for the change. 
The Transportation Project Management Institute (TPMI) is an eight-day intensive residential training program exclusively designed for managing the development phase of transportation projects.  This year’s program will be held at the Boars Head Inn in Charlottesville, May 15-18, 22-25, 2023. 
On March 28, VDOT’s PSPO announced modifications to their Procurement Manual and a new pilot program that are designed to expedite program delivery. 
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has been working toward the implementation of balanced mix design (BMD) for several years.  During that time, special provisions have been developed to address dense-graded surface mixtures with reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) contents up to 30% and above.
