VTCA-VDOT Richmond Dialogue

VTCA’s Leadership Committees are Seeking Nominations for Emerging Leaders
The 2021-2023 Emerging Leader Class is finishing up their program this summer, and VTCA’s Leadership Committees are now soliciting new members. The emerging leaders become directly involved in each of their respective leadership committees and several times a year meet with their respective peers.
High-Quality Work-Based Learning: The Basics
In April, VTCA held its second workshop addressing workforce development needs for members. Nearly 50 firms, local Career Technical Education (CTE) administrators, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Department of Education (DOE), and Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) staff attended to learn about and discuss ways to better engage future employees.

Virginia Mineral Mine Safety Awards
Virginia Energy’s Mineral Mining Program and the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) are accepting applications for the annual Virginia Mineral Mine Safety Awards, a very successful program that since its inception in 2007, has recognized 112 companies and 476 mineral miners for outstanding safety achievements in Virginia’s mineral mining industry.

VDOT Research Council Publishes Report on Functional Characteristics of Dense-Graded Asphalt Surface Mixtures (VTRC)
As asphalt mix design criteria evolve beyond prescriptive to performance-based specifications, traditional limits may be challenged in the pursuit of material durability.  As designers explore these limits, it is important to understand how basic design criteria ultimately affect the comfort and safety of the public who travels over these mixtures.

VDOT has updated their Memorandum on the uplisting of the Northern Long Eared Bat to endangered.
