Over the past month, VTCA has been to numerous meetings and hearings with state agencies discussing updates, plans or issues impacting Transportation Construction.

Virginia Energy’s Mineral Mining Program and the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) are accepting applications for the annual Virginia Mineral Mine Safety Awards. Due date is June 17!
VTCA Aggregate Producers have been playing a game of whack-a-mole with Virginia counties that have introduced ordinances or comprehensive plan amendments that make it harder, if not impossible, to permit mining sites within their jurisdictions
VTCA’s Aggregate Producer, Contractor, and Engineering Consultant Leadership Committees have announced the members of their newest class of emerging leader. 
The application window is now open for the 2023 VTCA Transportation Engineering Awards. Submissions for this annual award are due July 21, 2023.

The State Water Control Board is seeking public comments on the proposed draft language for the permit. The public comment period closes on July 21, 2023.  
VA Energy recently announced that Mike Skiffington, former Director of Policy & Planning, has been promoted to a new role at Virginia Energy.
The US Supreme Court released their decision on the Sacket v. EPA – WOTUS case. The Supreme Court found in favor of the Sacket, which is a positive decision for the aggregate industry.
VDOT released a new Thermoplastic specification in late May that changed criteria for the material resulting in the older material to become non-compliant.
