As a valued member of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA), you are well aware of our mission to advocate for fair, competitive, and sustainable practices within the transportation construction industry.  Over the next several months, VTCA will publish information on how PLA’s will be a threat to VA’s transportation construction firms as well as its Virginia workers.
This year’s Aggregate Producer Safety Seminar will offer a wide range of important safety topics. Along with presentations from industry and safety professionals. MSHA and the Virginia Department of Energy – Mineral Mining Program will provide updates as to what’s new with the Regulatory Agencies. We will also discuss the numerous safety resources Mineral Mining offers. 
 
 
All Contractor’s Erosion and Sediment Control Contractor Certifications (ESCCC) issued to date will no longer be valid as of July 1, 2025. The premature end is effective regardless of the date shown on the certification card.

The theme for this year’s Engineering Consultant Forum, “Embracing Progress”, was clearly embraced by a sellout crowd of nearly 450.  VDOT’s participation remained strong this year while other government attendees included the FHWA, the Department of Rail & Public Transportation, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), the Department of Small Business & Supplier Diversity, Chesterfield County, and the City of Lynchburg.

A substantial increase in design-build entries this year inspired the VTCA panel of judges to recognize multiple subcategories in both the design-bid-build (DBB) and design-build (DB) categories. In fact, the normal assortment of high-quality entries was characterized by an unusually high proportion of D-B projects – more than half – a trend that is likely to persist in the foreseeable future. 
On August 23, Martin Marietta, VA Energy and VTCA honored four individual miners for achieving safety milestones without lost time accidents. VA Energy was able to join Martin Marietta at the Midlothian location for a celebratory luncheon.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently held its semi-annual check-in with the asphalt paving industry, represented by the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA), Virginia Asphalt Association (VAA), and the Old Dominion Highway Contractors Association (ODHCA). The meeting highlighted critical industry topics: safety, project scheduling, pricing impacts, quality concerns, and future planning.
Exciting upcoming events to provide networking opportunities and hands-on sessions, empowering attendees to enhance their career prospects in a rapidly evolving job market.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has been working toward implementing Balanced Mix Design (BMD) for several years. VDOT’s roads have been experiencing increased surface cracking for several years, and BMD is seen as providing a means to address cracking concerns while also balancing the mixture’s susceptibility to other distresses. Another benefit of BMD implementation that is attractive to VDOT is the ability to consider innovations in mix designs.
The Congressional Aggregates Caucus was formally approved, as a Congressional Member Organization, better known as a caucus. This effort was led by Rep. Nick Langworthy (NY) and Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA), who will be their party’s co-chairs.
  
Linder Industrial Machinery Company is now the authorized distributor of Komatsu products in Virginia, effective August 26, 2024. Linder assumed the operations of the previous distributor, All Roads Equipment, in five locations: Bealeton, Chesapeake, Chester, Fishersville, and Salem.
