Something smells in Fairfax County, and it’s not just the stench of wastewater. The board of supervisors is experimenting with Virginia’s first-ever project labor agreement (called a PLA) on the planned rehabilitation of the Accotink Wastewater Pump Station. The irony is inescapable, given that government-mandated PLAs are notorious for flushing taxpayer dollars right down the drain.

The VTCA Annual Safety Seminar was held on December 4 in Staunton, Virginia. Once again, this year, only one seminar was conducted. Last year, the Safety & Health Committee decided to move from two seminars held on consecutive days in two separate locations across the state.

Offered on Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg, TCMI leads participants through a comprehensive developmental program tailored for individuals on a leadership track in the road-building industry. 
The Department of Workforce and Career Development is proud to host the 2025 #LifeReady Career Rodeo Skills Challenge on January 22 at the Exhibition Hall of the Richmond Raceway Complex. The Career Rodeo offers ACE Center students the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of various stakeholders, most notably potential employers. 
Recently the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) made some realignments to inspection area responsibilities in Virginia. These changes were unveiled at the 2024 VTCA Safety Seminar on December 4.
On November 29, 2022, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) published a final rule to reclassify the northern long-eared bat (NLEB) as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. The bat faces extinction due to the range-wide impacts of white-nose syndrome, a deadly disease affecting cave-dwelling bats across the continent.
