Fall has arrived, and we are now in the season of transition. During this time of year, we often look back to reflect and look forward to prepare for what’s next. We, at Wnet, have been doing just that as we get ready to celebrate our 15-year anniversary at the Leadership Summit on Nov. 3-4. If you missed the Sept. 22 webinar with the Wnet co-founders Diane Faro, Holli Targan and me, you can watch it here to learn about our past and our plans for the future. Plus, read the event summary in today’s issue: "Looking back, moving forward." Our future depends on our members and community, and we need more of you to continue to embrace diversity, create better inclusivity and continue to push for equity. Thank you for your commitment and engagement in our special community. Reach out to any of us to share ideas for our future seasons of growth.

Wnet Founders Reflect on 15 Years of Empowering and Investing in Women

By Tracy Korb, senior content marketing writer, FIS

When Wnet founders Diane Faro, Linda Perry and Holli Targan came together for a webinar celebrating the organization’s 15th anniversary, attendees heard personal stories about the organization’s early days as well as hopes for the future. The hour-long session revealed the motivations behind creating Wnet and the challenges and wins facing the organization over the past 15 years.

The Early Years

Wnet officially began serving members in January 2006, but the seed was planted years earlier when Diane Faro, Linda Perry, Holli Targan and Mary Gerdts became acquainted through their involvement with the ETA (Electronic Transactions Association).

“We were all leaders in the ETA,” said Holli Targan, attorney and partner with Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss PC. “But it was an ‘old boys club.’ And while men had all these opportunities for networking through the ETA and other industry events, there was nothing comparable for women.”

What Does Inclusion Mean to You?

New Series with Wnet Inclusion Group Chairs

Carolina Caballero    Interview with Carolina Caballero, head of B2B Payments and Blockchain Product Development, Mastercard

Part 2: Interview with Hispanic/Latino Inclusion Group Co-Chair Carolina Caballero

Wnet: What does inclusion mean to you?

Carolina: Inclusion means providing equal access to opportunities and open acceptance of any individual into a group irrespective of ideals, backgrounds and experiences.

Wnet: What has been some of the value of having an employee resource group within your organization that is aligned with the inclusion group of Wnet? If your company does not have an ERG, where do you find value or how do you create it?

Carolina: I ran the Hispanic Heritage Network for NY, a group of about 500 individuals, when I worked at Citi. I got to know many Hispanics from different backgrounds and levels across the company. I believe everyone that wanted to get involved did, and we were able to drive impact because of the large number of members. We had many activities that supported employees with career development – career fairs, mentoring, senior panels to discuss topics like mentorship/sponsorship/promotion and small group access to senior management.

Wnet: What are some of the ways you see our Wnet Inclusion Groups (IG) broadening the networking and mentoring opportunities for our members and sponsors?
