Wnet PayTech News
August 24, 2021

Time flies when you're having fun. This old adage is so true! It’s hard to believe summer is nearly over, but even more difficult to believe it’s been 15 years since Wnet began! As a co-founder with Linda Perry and Holli Targan, we began this journey to make a difference in the professional lives of women in the payments industry. As we’ve grown, our mission of empowering and investing in women has remained strong. Our male advocates are supporting us more than ever (see Engaging Male Allies and Advocates webinar recording), and our efforts have created a more diverse and inclusive industry. It’s time to celebrate our successes and plan for our next 15 years! I hope you join us Nov. 3 and 4 at our Leadership Summit in Atlanta to Make the Investment in yourself and our industry.

Correction for July 27 article, ‘What Could Be Good About This?’ 5 Takeaways from the PayTechWomenLead Session on Career Sponsorship: Tracy Korb, senior content marketing writer at FIS, was the author of the article, however, she was not given credit for her exceptional work. We apologize for the omission.

Special Wnet Networking Event at MWAA 2021

By Wnet Board Director Liz Pike, managing director, Green Rhino Recruiting

Chicago, Wednesday, July 21, 2021 – MidWest Acquirers Association (MWAA) and Chicago Wnet Chapter co-hosted a Wnet event that included two hours of inspiring speakers, interactive networking and catching up with friends. Founder and Board President Emily Smith spoke about her nonprofit, Female Strong, and 12-year-old Jorie talked about how the Young Entreprenuer Academy (YEA!) taught her to commit, manage her time and start a business – Hopes & Dreams Dreamcatchers. YEA is a 24-week program that takes girls through pitching their business ideas to CEOs from billion-dollar organizations.

After a networking break, Elise Gelwicks, founder & CEO of Eleview, spoke about what “networking” really means – building relationships and trust while adding value to each other.

MWAA has a lot of first-time attendees, and many of those attendees, men and women, made their way to the Wnet event. We had more than 50 attendees, and it was a great way to kick off the MWAA Conference!

Everyday Inclusion

Creating truly inclusive places where everyone can be themselves

Gail Burgos    DEI Corner Posts championed by Gail Burgos (she/her/hers), senior vice president, Diversity Equity Inclusion, 1st Sentry and CEO of Burgos Consulting LLC

We all want a place where we can just be ourselves with no pressure to try and fit into a predetermined norm. The Wnet Member Inclusion Groups offer safe, informal spaces for members and allies to network and share while driving change toward a more inclusive industry.

Our new series, “What Does Inclusion Mean to You,” starts in September and will highlight our current Inclusion Groups (IGs) – Hispanic/Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American and Pride/LGBTQ. We will hear from the IG chairs about what inclusion means to them and learn about the groups’ successes, challenges and resources. We will share events that can help us to be more inclusive throughout the year.

It’s important that we think about inclusion every day in the workplace – in how we work with our associates, in how we deliver for our customers, in how we choose clients and partners. Inclusive companies are known for increasing team engagement, increasing retention and recruitment and stronger results. Inclusion gives us the opportunity to get best-in-class thinking from all over the world.

We welcome you to join any or all Wnet Inclusion Groups – and to suggest a new group based on who you identify with or want to support. Inclusion is every day and everyone!
