We have received a few questions from intrastate carriers in CA who received a data correction letter from the FMCSA regarding a US DOT Number that they had not created. If you are intrastate carrier, a US DOT number has been created for you by the CHP. This was done, so DOT can now monitor a company’s FMCSA Safer Scores based on inspection reports both from the scales and roadside inspections. In 2016, the California Vehicle Code was amended to require all motor carriers in CA to obtain a US DOT number. For more information on the change in 2016, click here.
When you read through the data correction letter from US DOT, make sure to follow the instructions to verify the information on file and submit an MCS-150. You may update information online with the following link: UPDATE YOUR REGISTRATION.
