On Tuesday, September 18, the Progressive Conservative Government of Ontario announced that it will introduce legislation that, if passed, would encourage private gas distributors to develop projects that expand access to natural gas. The news release and backgrounder can be found here.
The CPA, deeply concerned with this announcement, sent an immediate letter to Premier Ford on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
The association is acting immediately and has taken the following steps:
- CPA President & CEO Nathalie St-Pierre wrote to Premier Ford on behalf of over 120 Ontario members and the 100,000 consumers of affordable propane, urgently requesting a meeting with the Premier and his senior staff to immediately discuss the association’s grave concerns.
- In her letter, St-Pierre expressed members’ strong expectation that the Ford government meet with the CPA to fully discuss our industry’s concerns, before any legislation is tabled. St-Pierre advised Premier Ford, "The effect of allowing natural gas companies to subsidize expansion through taxing existing customers, even at a later date, is not a fair market-based approach and will not reduce costs over the long-term.”
- CPA initiated a province-wide – URGENT CALL FOR ACTION – calling upon all Ontario members to join the association and take immediate action by writing to your local MPP. The CALL FOR ACTION can be found here.
