REMINDER: Have you registered your site to comply with the Environmental Emergency plans deadline?

Print this Article

The CPA reminds members that the deadline to register your site to comply with Environmental Emergency (E2) plans has passed. Ensure your site has been registered to comply with current requirements.

The deadline for the remaining requirements of Environmental Emergency Plans regulations is fast approaching. The last compliance requirement to meet Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) regulations states that by August 24, affected parties must:

  • Submit Schedule 4, which states the emergency plan is fully implemented, all employees have been trained on it and local authorities have been made aware of the plan. There is also a requirement to document a tabletop training session in 2020.

Past deadlines to submit information to ECCC include:

  • Submitting Schedule 2 by November 24, 2019.
  • Submitting Schedule 3, which states that an emergency plan has been developed, by February 24, 2020.

Note that current language in the regulation requires facilities with a container over 4.5 tonnes (2300 uswg) must be registered. Facilities with up to 10 tonnes (5000 uswg) storage and storage systems located at least 360 metres from a property line, are excluded from this requirement.

Are you regulated? More information on the E2 requirements can be found here.

Reporting can be done through the ECCC E2 reporting system on the ECCC website.
