AGC Members Hit Jackpot in VegasPrint this Article | Send to Colleague From mobile apps to contract negotiations, from a live RFI demonstration to an EPA update, session topics ran the gamut and delivered compelling content for all. Standing room only in the workforce development session highlighted the seriousness of the "war for talent" that exists in the industry today and called for a paradigm shift, with early intervention a key component.
Impressive speakers engaged audiences. Former defense secretary Robert Gates spoke of global crises, Fast Company co-founder and editor Bill Taylor outlined strategies for success, and Captain Richard Phillips recounted his harrowing experience with Somali pirates.
During the week, AGC unveiled two new initiatives. "Hardhats for Highways" is a national outreach campaign designed to help educate Congress about the number of local jobs impacted by federal transportation funding. And, in an effort to help member firms reduce their insurance premium costs, the association and Willis North America are offering a new private health insurance exchange.
Many convention attendees made their way to CONEXPO-CON/AGG, one of the world's largest construction trade shows being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Cranes, lifts, tractors, tires, concrete products, software technology, safety innovations - anything and everything related to the industry - filled parking lots and convention halls.
As the saying goes, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." But when it comes to the program delivered at AGC’s Annual Convention, folks leave with more than they came: a jackpot of information, friendships and maybe even new business.
