BillerudKorsnäs, Sweden, has introduced what it says is the next generation cartonboard—a new high-white, multi-coated, lightweight product "perfectly suited for the graphic industry." The company notes that with this new cartonboard, printers and converters are offered a board with "unmatched color reproduction capabilities in a grammage that fits the bill for a great number of graphical applications."
The new product, BillerudKorsnäs White 220 gsm, is based on the company's flagship cartonboard product, but has been significantly upgraded on four major points.
- New, low basis weight—220 gsm is a grammage range extension that launches the product right into the needs of printers and converters who require excellent image printing and life-like color reproduction in productions such as postcards, book covers, and premium consumer packaging
- Triple coating on top side—a move from double to triple coating provides a super-smooth surface capable of sharper detail and contrast in image rendering
- Higher whiteness and brightness—the key to uncompromising image printing is a high-white surface that provides life-like color reproduction, a wide color gamut, and vibrant color quality
- Improved surface structure—a higher standard of fiber formation adds two important benefits: a) a more even, calmer print, particularly noticeable in large monochrome areas, and b) a dependable quality consistency, ensuring users the same high quality through each reel, each batch, and each new order over time.
BillerudKorsnäs White is made especially for the premium segments of consumer packaging. It is widely used for exclusive branded goods such as health and beauty products, perfume and cosmetics, jewelry, and luxury beverages.
