SPFA News and Announcements
Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) and PV systems are increasingly paired together as a joint solution for energy savings. With the continued push toward sustainability and growing movements such as zero net energy (ZNE) construction, SPF and PV systems combine to provide a logical solution to generate renewable energy while conserving the energy used in heating and cooling. Regardless of whether ZNE is the end goal, SPF and PV combined on the roof can be highly beneficial, but proper installation is key. Here are some technical considerations to ensure optimization of these energy solutions.

Attention: Field Exams will not be conducted in Pasadena during the Sprayfoam 2020 Convention
The time has come for us to bring the Field Exams to the contractors! For the past several years, we’ve asked the contractors to come to the site of the SPFA Annual Convention to participate in PCP Field Exams! Now we are bringing them to you by offering them around the country so you can more easily attend and send everyone who is ready to pursue their SPFA PCP Certification for Master Installer! On February 11-12, 2020 in Pasadena, the PCP Exam Prep Courses and Written Exams will be offered. One complaint we’ve heard in the past from those who took field exams was that they weren’t then able to take an Exam Prep Course on that same day. This schedule will allow folks to get the courses and testing out of the way in Pasadena and then take a field exam at a different time. Details will be forthcoming on dates and locations! If you have any questions, contact Kelly Marcavage at certdirector@sprayfoam.org.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is again exhibiting and speaking at the 2019 Congressional Clean Energy Expo and Policy Forum, hosted by the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) and co-hosted by the bi-partisan House Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Caucus. This event is taking place July 11 in the Rayburn Building on Capitol Hill. The event pulls together all of the highest levels of leadership focusing on energy efficiency and related topics, benefits from attendance of a wide array of lawmakers and their staff, and serves to put attention on the products, services and leading experts on energy, net-zero and environmental sustainability. SPFA’s Rick Duncan will be speaking alongside other expert panelists in the Building Energy Efficiency session at 12:40 PM. A live webcast of the Policy Forum will be streamed at 9:30 AM EDT at www.eesi.org/livecast (wireless connection permitting). SPFA along with the constituents of the SPF industry continue to wait for one manufacturer of pest fumigation to complete small-scale testing, the first part of a process that is intended to resolve concerns expressed by the fumigation companies and improve their understanding of building code and SPF insulation. In the meantime, the manufacturers of sulfuryl fluoride fumigation gas have maintained their recommendation to pest contractors that the gas not be used for fumigations in homes that have SPF Unvented Attics until they better understand the venting procedures. SPFA has maintained our position that this is an Unvented Attic issue rather than an SPF issue, but the focus upon SPF persists. Meanwhile, a number of SPF customers have recently, and not unexpectedly, been denied fumigation in their homes on the basis of their SPF UVA. While customers, potentially ranging from 10,000 – 20,000 a year (as 5-10% of the 200,000 annual fumigations in California and Florida alone) prepare to be told that their homes cannot be fumigated to save them from infestation, the industry has been discriminated against and held hostage by the 10-month long odyssey of inaction and non-resolution by the pest industry and its manufacturers. SPFA continues to demand progress on this effort led by the Sprayfoam Coalition of ACC and the fumigant manufacturer. If you, colleagues, or customers experience a termite fumigation denial, or discrimination and mistreatment by traditional inspection and treatment pest companies, please submit the report of the incident to SPFA’s reporting survey here.
