SPFA News and Announcements
This year has brought challenges and change to many organizations, including SPFA. The silver lining is that we have the opportunity to re-examine our work, our priorities, our practices and work together to improve the mission of SPFA. To help get this initiative off the ground, the newly formed Membership and Marketing Committees are joining forces. We need your input too. Please look for a poll from us the week of October 5 and take the time to respond. Your feedback is very important! For more information about the SF21 Task Force, Membership or Marketing Committees contact Kelly Marcavage at kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org.

Health & Safety
In June, the SPFA Safety Committee added two new sections to the SPFA Model Written Safety Program. The first section provides a written Silica Exposure Control Program. This addresses the recent OSHA National Emphasis Program on respirable crystalline silica dust in the workplace, using information from SPFA’s 2018 respirable silica dust webinar (presented by OSHA staff) and the OSHA Publication 3902 . This new section should be of special interest to contractors that offer concrete jacking service, where respirable dust from cutting and drilling is a common hazard. The second new section offers a written Contagious Disease Control Program. While it addresses many common contagious diseases in the workplace, it includes specific guidance on controlling exposure to COVID-19. This is important for everyone as we get back to work. The SPFA Model Written Safety Program is offered at no charge to SPFA members and can be downloaded from the SPFA Members Only website. For more information on this document and the activities of the SPFA Safety Committee, contact Rick Duncan, SPFA Technical Director at rickduncan@sprayfoam.org.

For those of you who have been certified since 2014, it is time to re-certify since you are at the 7-year mark. We’ll be sending out information in November. Now is a great time to start filling out the CEU Declaration Form and lining up courses or training if you need to that. Additional exams are not required to recertify; instead, the completion of Continuing Educational Units (CEU) is necessary. The number of CEUs needed varies per level. For those who hold multiple certification, you just need to earn the number of CEUs for your highest level. In other words, if you are both a certified Installer and Project Manager, you need 25 CEUs. One of our goals within the PCP is continual improvement. In line with that, continuing education is acceptable for PCP if it meets the requirements of enhancing your knowledge, skills and abilities for your current certification level or a higher level. CEUs can be acquired through many industry educational opportunities including, but no limited to: Courses, webinars, seminars, workshops, convention breakout sessions, supplier training or any educational forum with a topic relevant to SPF Industry or relevant to your company’s business operations.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
